last month Nvidia officially introduced the newer GeForce RTX 3060 Ti model, which comes with updated GDDR6X memory, as well as GeForce RTX 3060 with 8GB of memory, expanding the RTX 30 lineup, and giving more choices to gamers and creators.
However, new reports from Chinese media outlets, it appears Nvidia intentions are to completely replace the older RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6 variant once stock runs out.
RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6 Will be Eventually Canceled
According to Chinese website MyDrivers, Nvidia contacted AIC (Add-in-Card) partners to sell through the older RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6 until stock runs out, before eventually canceling it altogether, making way for the upgraded 3060 Ti with GDDR6X memory.
The good news about this, is that the pricing for the upgraded GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X will remain unchanged from the the GDDR6 variant, which is around 2999 RMB (~$419), however, there is indication that Nvidia intends to replace the RTX 3060 12GB with the newly introduced RTX 3060 8GB.
Graphics Card | RTX 3060 8GB | RTX 3060 12GB | RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6 | RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cores | 3584 | 3584 | 4864 | 4864 |
Clock | 1770 MHz | 1770 MHz | 1665 MHz | 1665 MHz |
Memory | 8GB G6 | 12GB G6 | 8GB G6 | 8GB G6X |
Bus Width | 128 bit | 192 bit | 256 bit | 256 bit |
Mem Speed | 15 Gbps | 15 Gbps | 14 Gbps | 19 Gbps |
Bandwidth | 240 GB/s | 360 GB/s | 448 GB/s | 608 GB/s |
TDP | 170 W | 170 W | 200 W | 200 W |
While the pricing will remain the same, the performance certainly will not, as the updated GDDR6X memory on the RTX 3060 Ti will offer more memory speed, around 35% more bandwidth, and overall more performance over the older RTX 3060 Ti variant.
